VPN Gate is a free, public list of volunteer‑run VPN servers (from vpngate.net). Rammbock can browse that list and connect to a server over the SoftEther protocol with one tap — handy when you don’t have your own server and just need a connection.
Open it from the configurations screen’s overflow (⋮) menu → VPN Gate servers.
⚠️ These are untrusted, volunteer servers. Treat them accordingly — privacy is not guaranteed, the operator can see your traffic’s exit point, and the list may even contain fake or deliberately broken entries (that’s done to stop the whole list being blocked). Don’t use them for anything sensitive. For that, run or use a server you trust.
Browsing the list
The VPN Gate screen shows the current servers with, for each row, its country, IP endpoint, and quality stats. You can:
- Sort by Score, Ping, Speed, or Country.
- Search by IP address or country.
Each server shows its endpoint as IP:443 · hub VPNGATE plus a Score,
ping (ms), speed (Mbps), and session count to help you pick a good one.
Be patient. Public servers are flaky and the list intentionally mixes in some bad entries. If one doesn’t work, try another — sorting by Score or Ping is a good start.
Connecting or importing
Tap a server and you’ll be asked to agree before anything happens. The dialog shows the operator’s message (if any) and explains that the connection uses the SoftEther protocol with the fixed VPN Gate settings:
- Host: the server’s IP · Port: 443 · Hub:

You then have two choices:
- Agree & connect — connect right now without saving anything.
- Agree & import — copy the server into your own configurations list so you can reuse it later.
Imported VPN Gate profiles come pre‑tuned for flaky public servers: auto‑reconnect on, UDP acceleration on, parallel connections = 4, and the kill switch on.
When the list won’t load
Rammbock fetches the list live, but VPN Gate is sometimes blocked or slow. The app handles that gracefully:
- It keeps a 3‑day on‑disk cache. If the live fetch times out (after ~10 seconds), it shows the last saved list with a banner telling you how old it is and inviting you to tap ↻ to retry.
- Saved‑list banner — “Saved list from (time). Tap ↻ to update.”
- Outdated banner — shown when a refresh couldn’t reach VPN Gate and a stale cache is being displayed instead.
Loading the list manually
If VPN Gate can’t be reached and there’s no cache, download the list yourself and load it:
- On a working connection, go to vpngate.net and use the “CSV List”
link to download the servers
.csvfile. - In the VPN Gate screen, tap Load .csv file and select it.
The loaded file also becomes the cache for next time.
Notes and limits
- Connections use the SoftEther protocol only. VPN Gate also publishes OpenVPN configs, but Rammbock has no OpenVPN engine, so those are ignored.
- Servers are chosen by you from an untrusted list — re‑read the privacy warning above before relying on one.
- Because public servers are unreliable, expect to try a few before one connects and stays up.
